If you work or have worked at IBM, your pension is arranged with Stichting Pensioenfonds IBM Nederland (SPIN). In addition to a retirement pension, benefits are also arranged during your employment in the event of your illness (disability) and death (survivor’s pension).
All agreements surrounding your pension are set out in our regulations. The Pension123 gives you an explanation of these agreements.
Retirement pension
You can accrue two types of pension with SPIN:
- Defined Benefit Pension (DB) – you accrue pension rights in a career average pension plan. We try to make this pension partially increase with inflation each year.
- Defined Contribution (DC) pension – you build up an individual pension capital that you use to purchase your own pension from an insurer upon retirement.
In this video, you can see the difference between DB and DC.
In MySPIN, these two types can be found under Data. Do you not see one of these two icons in MijnSPIN? Then you are not accruing this type of pension.

Survivor and disability pension
- Survivor’s pension – we make sure that if an IBM employee dies during employment, there is a pension for his or her family.
- Disability – we regulate the accrual and payment of supplementary pension of disabled persons.
In MySPIN, you can see how much your partner and/or children will receive in the event of your death during your employment with IBM.
Pension Planner
In the Pension Planner on MySPIN, you can see how much pension you can expect later and whether that is enough to live on. How to check this in the Planner can be read here.
By default, the Planner calculates with the AOW and pension from SPIN. In addition, it is very easy to add your pension from any other employers. To do this, click on the ‘add pension from other employers’ button in the planner.
Are you expecting a shortfall? It is possible to make additional deposits into your DC capital with SPIN.
Future Pensions Act
The way pension is accrued through the employer is going to change starting in 2028. Learn more about this and what may change for you here.
