Netherlands gets a new pension system

On July 1, 2023, the Future Pensions Act went into effect. What does this mean for you? When will you hear what the new law means for you personally, and how will we keep you informed?

This page will be the central place where you will find answers to your questions for the next few years.

Latest news
The SPIN board has reviewed and accepted the order from IBM Netherlands and Kyndryl and their works councils for the transition to the new pension rules. We have determined that we can proceed with the proposed plan. This decision is an important step forward towards the new pension plan effective January 1, 2028.

April 9, 2026, we held two information sessions, one for retirees and one for former employees. Would you like to (re)watch a session? Then click on (one of) the links below.

Do you work at IBM?
The target effective date of the Wtp agreements is Jan. 1, 2028. You will receive more information about the changes from IBM. If you have questions about this, please contact AskHR and include in the subject line of the ticket: 2025 pension agreements.

Kyndryl has further elected not to convert SPIN pensions accrued through Jan. 1, 2025, to the new pension plan. Do you have SPIN DC capital? Then this will have been transferred to Kyndryl’s new pension administrator in early 2026. Unless you have not given your consent to this. Then it is left with SPIN.

Are you now no longer working at IBM or at Kyndryl or are you already receiving pension from SPIN? Or do you work for Kyndryl and still have pension entitlements with SPIN? We list the most important agreements for you below.

  1. The accrued Defined Contribution (DC) capital will not be converted by SPIN to a new plan (there will be no “rafting in”). SPIN will continue to manage the accrued pensions;
  2. The accrued Defined Benefit (DB) pension will also not be converted to a new plan (there will be no “rafting in”). Accrued DB entitlements remain intact, including the top-up guarantee from IBM and Kyndryl. SPIN will continue to manage and pay out accrued pensions in the current manner;
  3. Current allowance schemes 1, 2 and 3 remain unchanged.

The basis for the new agreements is that no one will lose out because of the Wtp. SPIN will transition to a new pension plan on January 1, 2028, but will not “cash in” with pension entitlements accrued until then. So for retirees and former IBM and Kyndryl employees, nothing will change. The agreements have been articulated by IBM and Kyndryl in transition plans. You can find your former employer’s transition plan on MySPIN.

Follow-up steps for IBM and SPIN
All agreements between IBM and the COR have been recorded in a transition plan. After consultation with the GBC, the transition plan has been presented to SPIN. You can find the transition plan on My SPIN. We have assessed whether we can implement the agreements made. This is detailed in the implementation plan. Part of the implementation plan is the transition communication plan. These plans can also be found on MijnSPIN. Both plans have been submitted to regulators DNB and AFM. They must ultimately also give their approval.

How do we keep you informed?
You can read more about expected timelines and follow-up steps on this page. You will also find questions and answers on this page. Furthermore, on this page you will find a timeline with the most important moments in decision-making and communication. We will also keep you informed through our digital newsletter in the coming years. SPIN and IBM also organize information sessions to which you are invited.
